Virtual Book Launch for A History of the University of Wisconsin System

    Wednesday, April 29

    12 – 1 pm

    Webex Event (virtual)

Join WISCAPE for a virtual conversation with Patricia A. Brady, author of the soon-to-be-released A History of the University of Wisconsin System from UW Press

    From the book description:

A tumultuous 1971 merger that combined all of the state’s public colleges and universities into a single entity led to the creation of the University of Wisconsin System. Drawing on decades of previously unpublished sources, Patricia A. Brady details the System’s full history from its origin to the present, illuminating complex networks among and within the campuses and an evolving relationship with the state.

The UW System serves as a powerful case study for how broad, national trends in higher education take shape on the ground. Brady illustrates the ways culture wars have played out on campuses and the pressures that have mounted as universities have shifted to a student-as-consumer approach. This is the essential, unvarnished story of the unique collection of institutions that serve Wisconsin and the world—and a convincing argument for why recognizing and reinvesting in the System is critically important for the economic and civic future of the state and its citizens.

Brady will discuss key moments in the UW System's history that have implications for the future success of the system's campuses, and UW-Madison in particular. There will also be ample time for attendees to ask questions, and participants will receive information on how to order the book at a special, promotional price.

This event is free and open to the public! However, please RSVP to receive information on how to join virtually using Webex.

Do you have time to make some telephone calls and compile information?

UWRA is in the process of updating a facility listing of venues available to hold UWRA luncheons, events, programs, and seminars. We have identified about 30 potential venues. The assistance needed is making telephone calls and updating the information on the worksheet. The information needed about each venue has been identified. Since this is invaluable information for our committees, quick completion is appreciated.

As mentioned during the November 20th program (27 Stages of moving to a retirement community), the UWRA presentations on the continuum of care communities were March, 2017. This covered the communities who provided the 4 levels of care (independent, assisted, skilled & memory). The second presentation was January 2018 and covered those communities that provided three of the 4 levels.
