Morning Program:

The Wisconsin Brass Quintet is composed of Alex Noppe and Matthew Onstad, trumpets; Tom Curry, tuba; Mark Hetzler, trombone; Daniel Grabois, horn; and joined by Anthony DiSanza, percussion.  They play a wide range of styles, from classical to jazz to Broadway to commercial music. The ensemble's programs include inventive arrangements of works by J.S. Bach, Bernstein, Copland, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Bartok, Messiaen, Kodaly, Satie, Piazzolla, Charles Mingus, Chick Corea and more, as well as original chamber music.  Specific numbers will be a delightful surprise since they have not selected all of their repertoire for the fall yet.

Luncheon Speaker:

We begin our 2018-19 luncheon series with Paula Bonner’s presentation on “Alumni Park: Badger Spirit Meets the Wisconsin Idea.”  Since 1895, UW-Madison campus planners had a vision for a park setting on Lake Mendota.  Paula, former president of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and chief alumni officer for the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, will talk about WAA’s Alumni Park, the new downtown and campus green space that welcomes UW-Madison alumni and the community. Alumni Park features exhibits that honor the Wisconsin Idea through stories of alumni achievement and a variety of events and activities.  Joining Paula will be Mary Carbine, Managing Director of Alumni Park and One Alumni Place.  Mary will add to the story of what we can expect for activities, programs, and special events taking place this coming academic year in the Park and Place.

New Member Table:  If you are new to UWRA or have attended one or two UWRA luncheons or events, we welcome you. There will be a special luncheon table for new attendees to meet board members who will welcome you to UWRA and answer any of your questions or concerns. Look for the table tent saying “New-Member Table.”

Food pantry contributions:   Mt. Zion Baptist Church Food Pantry

Both cash and checks payable to MT. ZION BAPTIST CHURCH will be accepted.

Menu:  The luncheon buffet entrees are ranch stuffed chicken breast (boneless breast of chicken stuffed with a herb cheese, bacon and broccoli filling, served with a white wine cream sauce) or stuffed portabella mushroom (succulent portabella mushroom stuffed with brown rice, spinach, diced tomatoes, onions, green and red peppers, zucchini and yellow squash).  Both meals are served with wild rice pilaf, Key Largo blend vegetables (orange carrots, yellow carrots, red peppers, and green beans), fresh fruit salad, rolls and butter, and beverages of coffee, iced tea, milk, and water.  The buffet will be catered by Gaylord’s.
