Flipping the Script -- Combatting Ageism

  • Wed, October 22, 2025
  • 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
  • Madison Marriott West, 1313 John Q Hammonds Drive, Madison

Ageism has long been a problem most associated with discrimination in the workplace. But we now know more about the ways that ageism can harm individuals and communities. In fact, research shows that having negative perceptions of growing older can reduce longevity by 7.5 years.

Hosted by Sharing Active Independent Lives (SAIL) as part of its 20th anniversary celebration and supported by AARP WI and Bader Philanthropies, the goal is to raise awareness of and find strategies to address ageism in its many forms.

Older adults in Dane County along with their families, friends and others with an interest in aging well. Professionals and students in health care professions are also strongly encouraged to attend.

Speakers include:

 Stacie Sampson,

Audience Strategy

Manager (Age Inclusion)

at AARP

 Dr. Regina Koepp,

Clinical Psychologist

and Gerontologist

With 500 active members age 55 and better, SAIL is a lively nonprofit program that lifts spirits, provides an anchor for independent living, and offers social and service connections to help members live life on their own terms.

SAIL is a membership program that engages older adults to help with the design and evolution of services and activities to promote independence through connections. Thanks to our “members helping members” model, SAIL offers trusted home and personal services while also addressing the challenges associated with a rapidly growing population of seniors, a limited labor force, lack of government funding, and changing lifestyle preferences of people as they age, and more.

Sharing Active Independent Lives launched in 2005, in collaboration with two of Madison’s longest-serving senior living and care providers: Attic Angel Community and Oakwood Village.
